before the movies. My daughter is on book 4 and saw the movie first.

It used to mean that the person could answer correctly
on the spot any question in Nezikin, Moed, or Nashim,
halakha l'maaseh.
Today, the answer will vary depending on whom you ask.
It will usually mean that the person knows how to learn

Then my oldest son goes to a group that this Rebbe leads in his house

We have done this for two years (5th and 7th grades), and it was an okay solution. It depends very much on being able to find other boys who are academically compatible with your child, and other parents who have similar goals to you. I didn't find this so easy, and the groups were structured in the way the rebbe wanted, not me. I would suggest that from age 5, the curriculum should be
chumash with Onkelos and Rashi, and the tutor should do that,
moving on to Nakh/targum with the meforshim on Tanakh.
Also medrash that will capture the imagination. Our goal
is to get our kids to see the world the way Chazal saw it,
