You are really doing an excellent job on this topic. I just want to add one more thing that is in my narrative.
I tell my kids that we have a body, that is physical and is biologically a lot like animals, and we have a soul that is spiritual and holy. Part of the job of halachah is to help us give a holy aspect to what is physical, and to give a physical aspect of what is spiritual. [...]45_1Jan200418:14:25-0800(PST)barbmazor@yahoo.com

We are 3 weeks from my ds' BM. My son is dyslexic and definitely has frustration/attention difficulties. So here is our story.
But just a little more details about me. First of all, I know how to read Torah (lein). Second, I can read and play music.
When you say Bar Mitzvah lessons, I assume you mean reading the Haftorah or reading from the Torah and being called for aliyah. But you will also need someone to teach him how lay tefillin, and you want to make sure that he knows all the order for tefilot. [...]45_6Jan200414:25:33-0800(PST)barbmazor@yahoo.com

I see it as an overcorrection of a previous trend--"boys who learn" were
having trouble finding spouses (and financial support!). Part of the
original motivation for the Bais Yaakov movement was to turn girls'
hearts and minds toward the boys who were full-time learners. I think
that push has gone too far at this point (and maybe from the beginning
was applied in an across-the-board fashion, rather than helping girls
determine what kind of spouse they could make the best marriage with). [...]40_08Jan200410:18:08-0800ssloman@netlab.com
