Rina,
I live in Madrid, Spain, we are on Shlichus out here for 20 odd years. My 5
little ones ka'h are being hschooled now and the rest are already learning
abroad (or married). I don't think my case is really something to compare
here on this list, because I am homeschooling out of necessity . The strange
thing is that when I was a little kid, we were hschooled in Toronto and
Chicago, because my mother didn't think the schools available, were for us!
I remember Teitching Chumosh on a high stool in the kitchen while my mother

I am recommending a book for you and anyone else
called "Raising a Thinking Preteen" by Myrna Shure.
It is a step by step program for parents to teach the
children how to evaluate interactions with others and
to problem solve situations that may arise.
I particularly thought of you because there are 3 composite
children used in the examples. One of them is shy and
introverted (one is aggressive and one is well-adjusted),
This may dovetail nicely with the social skills class, and it
may give you something to help while you search out the
class. [...]41_4Feb200122:01:47-0500aimpe@compuserve.com

the understanding that your daughter's problem was shyness and not dislike
of school. Your very first post explaining the situation seemed to clearly
say just that!
I like your biofeedback idea, as it is a form of behavior therapy (that is,
if it is being used to decondition a person's anxiety reaction to ceratin
situations). With normal behavior therapy, though, we don't use machines,
just teach relaxation (or positive imagery) which is then juxtaposed to
mental images of the anxiety-evoking situations. Additionally, behavior
therapy [...]40_9Feb200116:52:59-0500ssloman@hotmail.com

how to find proper answers to these type of questions?<<
I love children! In the Yad, the Rambam says that one only says
the Birchot HaShahar that are meaningful to the person saying
to t'fila, so my 2nd best suggestion is to find what's meaningful in the
b'rachot to you. My best suggestion, however, is to prompt her
to find the meanings for herself. What [...]42_10Feb200122:56:21-0500aimpe@compuserve.com

I'm wierded out by this and I am wondering if this just
something well known that I had no clue about.
Background: My older son used to be quite rough on
his tzitzit and very often I found the bottom winding partially
untied. So we bought a book by Aryeh Kaplan with instructions
on how to tie tzitzit, so we could fix them properly when it
happened. On one of these occassions, I noticed that the
rest of the tassel was not tied correctly, so we fixed it. Then
we checked the other tzitzit and we found several [...]42_15Feb200123:31:02-0500aimpe@compuserve.com

This list is moderated. This means that the messages
are read and approved before they are forwarded to
everyone. I, Barbara, have been doing this while Tzviya
is enjoying her new baby.
Anyway, I usually get to my e-mails between 2 and 5 in
the afternoon - when I am ready and in need of a break
from homeschooling my kids . Sometimes I get
on again in the evening. It is at those times that I forward
all the messages. [...]42_22Feb200117:28:06-0500aimpe@compuserve.com

>>Does anyone know of a list for home schoolers in the Reform movement?<<
I don't know of a Reform homeschooling list. But I do know
one that is non-denominational. Many of us here are on that
list, too. It is quite a nice list. It is really special to be part
of such a diverse group who all get along and really
respect each other. [...]42_22Feb200118:07:36-0500aimpe@compuserve.com

Wow! I wish I knew some good advice here. I would
let the depression ride out a few days and see what
happens. Look at diet. I wish I knew more. My heart
goes out to you.

I was thinking about you so much last night, that I made
a point to get on this morning even though there is a
ton of cooking to get done.
Anyway, you may want to make a trip to the pediatrician
to rule out anything physiological. She might feel listless
because she is anemic or some other cause. [...]42_23Feb200111:08:16-0500aimpe@compuserve.com

I agree 100%. I did not mean to imply that our list is anything
less than respectful.
