I am delurking and have some questions about how to decide to home school
elementary age children. Last year when my husband and were trying to
decide about our son's high school education I got a great deal of
information and help about home schooling as an alternative. Just to bring
you up to date our son Josh is going
to The New Jewish High School in Waltham, MA (we live in Salem, MA) and is
doing extremely well. He gets up at 5:30am to take the 6:39 commuter
train and his VERY happy there. Although it is [...]59_Pine.LNX.4.05.10003240906500.11914-100000@mail.noblenet.org 465 672 27_Re: Homeschooling Plus.....15_Shoshana Sloman19_ssloman@hotmail.com29_Mon, 03 Apr 2000 08:44:47 PDT540_- Here are a few ideas you could look into for supplementing your
homeschooling.

First, some people have had success in arranging to send their children to
day school for only the Jewish part. You could talk with the principal
about how open they would be to that option.

If that doesn't work out, you could arrange to have local rabbis/teachers
work with your children. They usually are glad to be able to make some
extra money, and the individual attention can be very good (like with
homeschooling). [...]39_03Apr200008:44:47PDTssloman@hotmail.com 1138 44 24_re: Fwd: Hate literature47_Israel (Ira) Friedman and Tzviya (Fawn) Brickel21_ifriedma@actcom.co.il31_Wed, 05 Apr 2000 09:46:39 +0200624_us-ascii Hi everyone,
I want to get everyone's opinion. I forwarded the post about the
"Protocals" with hesitation. I apologize to those who feel they've just
been hit by more junk mail (especially considering Liat's post ;-).
OTOH, the issue does seem important from a Jewish standpoint and we *are*
a Jewish group. Furthermore, this is not the first time I've received this
message (I got it from a friend, too) and I am interested in discussing the
issue. I think it has important educational ramifications.
I looked at the review on Amazon and it is the publisher's review, not
Amazon's. [...]43_05Apr200009:46:39+0200ifriedma@actcom.co.il 1183 783 27_Re: Homeschooling Plus.....15_Shoshana Sloman19_ssloman@hotmail.com29_Wed, 05 Apr 2000 06:31:06 PDT357_- >My kids will be going to a Lubavitch day camp this summer, but only for a

Yes, they can. Have you inquired about a scholarship at the Lubavitch

That's interesting. I hadn't thought about looking under which category
the book was listed. I looked over the letter again and you are right; he
was asking that they change the category under which it was listed. Seeing
it that way, I'd have to say I agree with his complaint.
Thanks for pointing that out. (Pretty poor critical reading skills there,
huh? ;-) Actually, I think what happened was that I didn't actually read
all of the letter. I had received a very similar letter recently and
assumed they were the same. They weren't. The first letter I got [...]43_06Apr200016:13:29+0200ifriedma@actcom.co.il 2007 139 21_a happy moderator :-)47_Israel (Ira) Friedman and Tzviya (Fawn) Brickel21_ifriedma@actcom.co.il31_Thu, 06 Apr 2000 16:25:25 +0200545_us-ascii The volume on the list is pretty amazing considering we're two weeks away

I can also understand Yiddishe Mama's discomfort - she is trying to provide
a sound Torah education to her children, in the absence of long-standing
Jewish education and practice in her family. When she said she is resistant
to change, I understood her to mean not that it makes her feel unpleasant,
but that she believes such changes to be wrong. In fact, [...]39_16Apr200018:35:56PDTssloman@hotmail.com 2813 440 16_Re: Introduction15_Shoshana Sloman19_ssloman@hotmail.com29_Sun, 16 Apr 2000 18:41:35 PDT350_- Welcome, Naomi!

This is my exact idea - that all learning should be centered around Torah
(hence the "TOrah-Centered Homeschooling" list). We have even been toying
with the idea of building a curriculum around Jewish history. So many
subject areas can be incorporated into learning about Jewish communities
around the world - their history and geography, how they adapted local flora
and fauna for mitzvah use, the local government and how it treated them, [...]39_18Apr200007:48:44PDTssloman@hotmail.com
