Her bday frequently falls during Passover. For our immediate family celebrations, we have a Pesachdik cake. For the party we have for family and friends, we do this on the weekend either before her bday or after, whichever is not during Pesach, because we have some family and friends that aren't Jewish and don't celebrate Passover. For school, she's in 8th grade now and I don't have to send anything in anymore, but I used to wait until after her bday to send in treats. Last year was her Bat Mitzvah, and her bday [...] 1682 50 21_Re: Passover birthday9_Jon Stern18_jstern@goodnet.com37_Mon, 24 Feb 1997 03:07:58 -0500 (EST)394_- Why don't you bring something that is traditionally servered for desert for her birthday. I don't know if you live in a Jewish or Christian community, but if you don't live in a predominate Jewish community, maybe you could ask the teacher if you could speak to the class as to why you cannot have cupcakes on her birthday. It might be a good way for children to understand differences. At the conclusion of Havdalah when we sing Shavuah Tov, we engage in round robin hugs and kisses until each of us has had a chance to embrace every other family member and wish them a good week. 'With two parents and two kids it's pretty simple. I like it because it's fun, positive and reminds me of the "Good night John Boy" sequence that ended each installment of the TV series "The Waltons" when I was growing up. I think a Hillel sandwich is a special treat, but my kids disagree.

They *do* like Ima's matzah balls, however. We still remember the time when we had served matzah balls on the dinner plates, and during a moment when both parents' attention was diverted, Jane performed some business (I thought that out of the corner of my eye I saw her duck under the table) and when we turned back to her [...] 1907 32 34_Kosher for Passover foods for Baby7_FrankP.21_moles@frontiernet.net37_Tue, 25 Feb 1997 16:40:40 -0500 (EST)519_- I'm sure this isn't really a new question, but it's one to which I don't know the answer:

As we all know, Passover will soon be upon us. I am thinking about kosher for Passover foods to feed to my 9 month old baby. (i.e., he's 7 mos. old now. He will be 9 months old when Passover comes.) I have noticed that some of the Beechnut fruits and vegetables are kosher for Passover, so that isn't a problem. I guess I'll have to eliminate the baby cereal for the week. But, what do I do about the formula? After some soul-searching, we decided that it wasn't right (for us) to deprive him of the food he needed. We kept a few chametz things out for him, including his bottles and a few dishes and utensils. We fed him rice cereal rather than his usual oatmeal (although we're Ashkenazic, we felt that this was a step in the right direction, and the soy formula which we were using also qualified as kitniyot). We did our best to keep these dishes away from our Pesach dishes and other facilities. You're right; it isn't a new question. I am orthodox, and have had this situation with all 3 of my children to one extent or another. Basically, one is not allowed to deprive a baby of the foods that s/he requires. What your baby requires can, of course, be determined by your pediatrician, but being the mother of 3 allergic children, I would hesitate to recommend to anyone to start a new food on the eve of a holiday. Hi, Last summer at Bookpeople, I found the first issue of Jewish Family and Life. It was big and glossy, with articles by Dr. Ruth, sedars with the rich, make your own matzah for the kids, bedtime rituals, reviews on music, and a humor column. It was pretty good. So, I filled out the survey as they requested, and a twelve dollar money order for a years subscription. All I have received so far are two four page newslatters. I have e-mailed the webpage but have [...] 2150 29 17_Passover birthday13_Joy Mendleson20_ab522@chebucto.ns.ca37_Fri, 28 Feb 1997 14:01:44 -0500 (EST)305_- Hello --

"Make a Wish, Molly" by Barbara Cohen is a moving story about a Russian Jewish girl who gets invited to her friend's house for a birthday party during Passover. I won't spoil the plot for you, but the author cleverly leaves you at the end with a heightened appreciation of Judaism. [...]
