This piece of work is actually a Christian "Old Testament" repackaged with a rabbi's forward and a Magen David on the cover. Quite frankly, I have been to many a bris or a babynaming and there are always lots of children present. However, a close friend invited us to her babynaming of her 10 month old at her home, and we brought our two young children (who were well-behaved). It was on a Sunday at noon. She kind of said something to me after the party that children weren't supposed to be there [...]

For a Bris, I wouldn't look down on people for bringing children, but i'd expect them to make sure the kids were totally quiet and under control for the actual ceremony. [...]

Good words of advice... We fell for it. It wasn't until we read closer that we discovered our mistake. As you pointed out, the Mogen Dovid on the cover, the Rabbi Forward... You would think it's a "no brianer". For shame DK!! (actually they probably didn't know any better) I say that as they publish an excellent "my first Hanukkah book". Complete with a picture of an Artscroll siddur!!! [...]

Generally friends of people who have newborns also have young children themselves, and wouldn't expect to try to find childcare on a sunday lunch. Also as it is a babynaming it is a child-centered celebration. For a wedding I would ask whether the children were invited and generally older children are not but babies are. I've never been to a brit or baby naming where children were NOT invited.

They're expensive, but beautiful. There are five separate volumes of the Torah, and each volume has some commentary from the Midrash and an extra section (one has the book of Ruth, one the book of Esther, one a retelling of Jonah, and one has a haggadah.) I've never attended a bris or naming that wasn't a 'whole family' event. In fact, they have all been very kid friendly. I was actually told that it was bad form to invite people to a bris. My mother told me that you're just supposed to "inform" everyone of when it is, because since it's a Mitzvah to go, it would put them in a bad position if they had to decline a real invitation. [...]
