There's a CD called "From Generation to Generation: A Legacy of Lullabies" by Tanja Solnik (with whom I have no affiliation). The CD includes "Traditional Jewish Lullabies sung in Ladino, Yiddish and Hebrew."
If you visit Tanja's Web page at http://www.tanjasolnik.com, you'll find Real Audio samples of the tracks and ordering information. [...]

We are a Jewish family living in a remote area. For half a year, we commuted to Seattle (by ferry and car) to take our children to Religion School. This was a 12-14 hour day, once a week, which we found un-doable. Hard on the children, hard on the parents, hard on the pocket. [...]

What age is everyone sending their children to preschool? I'd like to hear recommendations on whether to send our 22 month old girl this year or wait 1 year.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) =8B A black bear that killed a 5-month-old girl in the Catskills may have mistaken the infant for food, not recognizing her smell as human, a state wildlife pathologist said Tuesday. Various tests on the 155-pound male bear continued one day after he knocked Esther Schwimmer out of her stroller and carried her into nearby woods, as her mother shuttled her 4- and 2-year-old siblings inside. The 3-year-old bear dropped the infant afte= r witnesses began throwing rocks at it, but the baby died shortly afterward o= f severe head and neck injuries. [...]

I personally am opposed to preschool until a child is 3. When my daughter was 2 we returned to CA and I had to find a child care situation for her. The preschool at the temple came highly recommended and I enrolled her. She absolutely thrived being in the school enviornment. She is extremely bright, knew all her colors, shapes, letters and could count to 50. She needed the social atmosphere. [...]

I sent my girls at age 3. They went 2 1/2 hours a day, 3 days a week. At age 4, the hours were the same, they went 5 days a week. The temple where we used to live took them potty-trained or not (and they were not.). I would have sent my son, but we have moved and no one here will take him [...]

That about sums it up. We put our son into part-time day-care/preschool starting at 18 months, and he did well. He is now entering first grade, is very social, and is well ahead of grade level academically.
The QUALITY of the day care or preschool matters a lot---we were fortunate enough to be able to get into some of the best programs locally. If we hadn't gotten him into a really high-quality program, we would have kept him at home, since the poor programs don't provide the enrichment and social [...]

She did REALLY well, bli ayin hara. She is entering Pre-K (4 year old class) soon. Now I am going to take my Mommy hat off and put on my Teacher hat... Your question assumes that "everyone," sooner or later, does send their kids to preschool. However, I think it's worth adding here, that, though this is a "general parenting" question, there are several possible Jewish responses -- one of which is that children this age do NOT belong in preschool at all. Food for thought:
In Massachusetts, licensed preschools cannot take children until they are 2 yrs. 9 months.
My extremely social older child desired so much stimulation (and needed it from many people) that I found a Chabad preschool that would take her at 2 and a half.
My son wasn't really ready for a group situation until he was 3. He went to our synagogue's licensed preschool. He had a speech problem (Apraxia - neurologically based) and needed to be in a situation where he had to make the verbal effort to make his needs known, but was not [...]
