I know, that sounds really over the top, but it's SO easy and makes a lovely Jewish Martha Stewart-esque gift. You can buy sheets of beeswax at Michaels. You fold the sheets in 3rds lengthwise and then each of those long ones in half, and place a wick firmly into one end, then start rolling. You get a beautiful candle, and if you choose a nice mixture of colors, you can really make a lovely set of 44. Actually, I didn't mean discernable fumes... just the plasticky by-products I'm certain must be dissipating into the air of our home. The idea of using an old toaster oven outside of the house is a good one; I'll keep it in mind when I go to replace our current toaster oven. I did, having the baby made me very aware of just how short of time we spend with our families.

LOL, I actually got the early registration form while the girls were still in camp! It's this sort of behavior that makes it so impossible for the "late deciders" to get into Ramah. On the other hand, it ensures a place for those like my kids who get home from Ramah only to immediately start counting down to when they can leave for camp again next year. Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year 5762, begins Monday evening, September 17, 2001 and continues until Wednesday evening, September 19, 2001.

There are a large number of resources on the web that you may find helpful in teaching your children about Rosh Hashana and in finding activities for them that will make the holiday relevant to them at their age level. Dear Friends,

I am a new subscriber to this newsgroup, and am surprised that I haven't yet seen any posts touching on last Tuesday's horrific attacks on the U.S. and how to discuss them with our children. Dear Beth--

First and foremost, welcome to the list, and may we have happier things to discuss in the new year.

Second, as regards your question, I think that the list has been very quiet because the newsgroup's charter is to discuss childraising in a Jewish context. The need to explain to our children what has happened, and to comfort their fears, is by and large universal--not specifically Jewish, as I see it. (There are definitely Jewish and Israeli angles to the politics and to the historical role of the Jewish people as an early-warning lightning rod for fanaticism and [...] 963 187 45_[SCJ-PARENTING:6498] 45 websites about Sukkot13_Jacob Richman17_jrichman@jr.co.il29_Tue, 25 Sep 2001 01:15:31 EDT466_- Hi Everyone!

As an aid to parents who are looking for background information and activities for their children for Sukkot, I have assembled the addresses of a number of websites.

Sukkot is the Jewish holiday that commemorates how protective "Clouds of Glory" surrounded the Jewish people after leaving Egypt during the forty years of wandering in the desert. It also commemorates how the Jews lived in temporary dwellings during that same time.
