I buy a lot of shells that have a high neck (jewel neckline or turtleneck) but are usually sleeveless, to go under suit jackets. For warm weather, why not buy those and layer with a light-weight cotton blouse? The shells are easy to pull up for nursing, and a large blouse would allow you to wrap it around you and your baby for modest nursing. [...]

Yes, there are the lunatic gifts :-) but the non-monetary gifts chosen with care are definitely my favorites. For example, my daughter used to play the trumpet. I think, perhaps, it's best to look back at your own life and see what's stood out for you. For example, my copy of _Winnie the Pooh_ would not ordinarily be memorable, but my aunt wrote a note in it (dated, so I realize that I've been reading it since age 5). Sentiment is priceless. [...]

Maybe they could special order from their supplier? [...]

One of the few bat mitzvah gifts I really remember was a complete set of Shakespeare's plays and sonnets. Torah u'maddah (Torah combined with secular learning), you know. ;) I treasure that book to this day. [...]

If you're having a formal upshirnish (hair cutting) its a nice touch to introduce kippah and tzitzit after the hair cut, but I don't think its required. I think that as a practical matter we shouldn't expect a child to treat a kippah as a requirement until he is old enough to understand [...]

I have some friends who will put a kippa on their boys any time they go to shul or something more formal even before age 3, and then they make it a full time thing at age 3. On the other hand my cousin NEVER wore one until the day of his upsherin (first hair cut) at age 3. I think until age three it's really up to the parents and the temperament of the child. [...]

Well, DH and I officially kicked off the Pesach cleaning last night once the boys were asleep.
Our shul is doing a nice thing this year: as a mitzvah project, the 7th and 8th graders are making their hands available to those who sign up in advance, on the morning of April 1, for help with babysitting, cleaning, dish-schlepping, etc. [...]

I've seen so many 3-year-olds who hate to wear a kippa, that it makes sense to me to start them on the day of their bris and make it a habit, like seatbelts.
I have no boys, but this is my observation. maxine in ri remove "not" to reply
