In last week's parsha (Metzora) there are two words used meaning "scrape" (concerning a house possibly infected with "tzaraat"), with roots respectively qof-tzadi-`ayin (Lev. 14:41) and qof-tzadi-he(?) (14:43).

Are these really the "same" word (to the extent that this question can be made precise)? If so, are there any other examples in Hebrew of `ayin being an "optional" member of a root? [...]
