Nonetheless, I find it hard to argue with the claim that the rules are there to facilitate pronunciation.
I imagine opinions differ among those who see just the phonetic/linguistic side to those who mix in tradition. Every tradition has its problematic cases, and there are some who would like to collate the seemingly correct side of each group and think they came up with perfection.
