Ameinu's Policy and Advocacy committee works by consensus and we're a big tent. We had people who supported the position you stated and people who didn't want us to issue a statement at all. THE WICKED SON

Anti-Semitism, Self-Hatred, and the Jews.

By David Mamet.

189 pp. Nextbook/Schocken. $19.95.

To anyone who takes Jewishness seriously, David Mamet's 1991 film, "Homicide," was confusing. On the one hand, it was refreshing, even exhilarating, to see how openly Mamet dealt with issues like Jewish identity and anti-Semitism. Far from hiding his background, like so many in his business, Mamet embraced it, then shoved it in everyone's face. His Jewish characters were neither the celluloid conversos nor the neurotic nebbishes [...] 1247 86 33_Re: Ameinu statement on Lieberman13_Yuval Warshai20_warshy@SBCGLOBAL.NET30_Wed, 1 Nov 2006 20:41:01 -0500581_iso-8859-1 Heidi,

Dear Phil,

I;ve always considered male circumcision the most primitive of all our customs and was plenty ambivalent about having it done to my sons HOWEVER female "circumcision" is really a misnomer because there are several versions and almost all involve a lot more than removing a little flap of skin. Almost all involve clitorectomy and many also involve labiactomy . It can be a horrible, mutilating procedure that results in lifelong sexual, urinary and obstetric dysfunction. That one thing was antisemitism. Israel's recent war with Hezbollah resulted in a new wave of anti-Semitic incidents in Europe -- almost all in Western Europe, a new report finds.

The European Jewish Congress' 53-page report, presented Sunday at a World Jewish Congress meeting in Paris, reveals that the transference of anti-Israel sentiment onto Jews occurred almost exclusively in Western Europe, with the atmosphere remaining either neutral or pro-Israel in the former Eastern Bloc. The World According to Carter Books

BY ALAN DERSHOWITZ November 22, 2006 URL: http://www.nysun.com/article/43958

Sometimes you really can tell a book by its cover. President Jimmy Carter's decision to title his new anti-Israel screed "Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid" (Simon & Schuster, 288 pages, $27) tells it all. His use of the loaded word "apartheid," suggesting an analogy to the hated policies of South Africa, is especially outrageous, considering his acknowledgment buried near the end of his shallow and superficial book that what is going on in Israel today "is unlike that in South Africa-not racism, but the acquisition of land." Allahs England?

By Daniel Johnson From issue: November 2006

The oldest Jewish cemetery in England is in Mile End, in the heart of the East End of London. It was created exactly 350 years ago on the orders of the Lord Protector, Oliver Cromwell, who, overruling his own council, officially readmitted Jews to England for the first time since their expulsion in 1290. I came across it recently while visiting Queen Mary University, where I had once taught history, to give a public lecture. Yesterday's Ha'aretz features an article which mentions Nate Rosenberg, the son of Habonet's Avi Rosenberg.

Here is the quote that mentions Nate; Dave Duquette, formor Boston Red Sox general manager, ran the tryout. For some reason your message (copied and pasted below) did not come to my email box through Habonet. Ken pointed it out to me, so I went and dug it up out of the archives.

I would be very happy to discuss the idea you suggest. I could give 10% (or some such figure) to Habonim-Dror or Ameinu or other organizations that are willing to spread the word to their members. If people from one of the organizations ordered from me, I could set aside the "commission" and write a check once a month. Im not sure what it means there seems to be a lot more questions than answers about this whole enterprise but its a great feeling and hes very excited and we are very proud.

Ironically enough, he told us that at the tryouts the American promoters didnt even want him to participate at first, because of his age, but I guess someone there convinced them that he was worth watching. I don't understand. Why is it a "malaprop" instead of a "paraphrase"?

I agree with you about the "slanted presentations" statement, but I think Dershowitz is assuming that most people are aware that lawyering in general precludes the idea of slanted presentation in order to be able to advocate for your sometimes-none-too-innocent client.
