You seemed to be saying that the Dems don't have a health care plan or a social security plan. I think that's bunk and needs to be challenged every time it comes up in conversation or the media.

Noam if that is what anyone is saying that needs to be the foucs of the discussion. "Three people hospitalized found not to have avian flu", according to Ha'Aretz:

Why should anyone have to refute this? My guess is that it is all true! The only thing missing is quotation marks in the correct places. The so-called "children" that the Palestinians send out to do the shooting, stoning and burning are any "children" under 18 years old that they have by the thousands with nothing better to do with their lives. Having worked in Corrections for 3 1/2 decades, I can tell you that a seventeen-year-old can do a lot of damage. Sometimes more than an eighteen-year-old adult! In America, we try lots of under-eighteens as adults if [...] 14361 72 6_DCI/PS11_Steve Klein26_kleinsdesigns@SOCAL.RR.COM31_Sat, 18 Mar 2006 09:15:00 -0800401_iso-8859-1 Geanie

I just came back from the DCI/PS website. They did a great job, putting up pictures of cherubic, bright-shining punims. It'd melt the heart of any well-meaning person. Well, maybe not the heart of someone whose child was blown up in an Israeli pizza parlor. There are no links on the website to these or any of the other childlike activities that drew attention to them. My nephews and sons have over the years told us about how they caught 13 and 15 year olds coming through the checkpoints with bombs and knives, and, of course, they must be arrested. Is a 17 yr old still a child? I believe that that age is still considered as a child. Many are the terrorists and suicide bombers of that age. My niece Naomi Katz once saw a 16 yr old with a small child in tow near the Kotel, and the 16 [...] 14611 34 41_Re: Israeli Abuse of Palestinian Children10_Senor Neva19_senorneva@YAHOO.COM31_Sat, 18 Mar 2006 12:17:46 -0800466_iso-8859-1 seems to me a quote that was attributed to Golda Mayer is appropriate here

What are the conditions these children are being held in? Are they in fact being tried, either as adults or juveniles? What happens when they are not convicted? Are they being schooled, health care provided, properly nourished while being held? Are they beaten and abused? The accelerated evolution we have undergone, from drinking instant powdered coffee to drinking gourmet coffee-to-go from a paper cup, has left its mark on the streets of Israeli cities, where dozens of branches of coffee chains can be seen. The Israeli Model for Cutting Suicide Attacks

Responding to a security alert March 21, Israel police arrested 10 Palestinian men and recovered a satchel containing some 11 pounds of explosives following a high-speed chase on the Tel Aviv-Jerusalem highway. The arrests, police said, foiled a suicide bombing planned for central Israel. Had it succeeded, the attack would have been Israel's first suicide bombing since a January attack at a market in southern Tel Aviv, which wounded more than 20 people but killed only the bomber. THE parties my father votes for never get into Parliament. One year he'll vote for some economist with thick glasses who promises a revolution in tax law, the next year for an irate teacher with a ponytail who advocates a revolution in the school system, the year after that for a restaurateur in Jaffa who explains that only a new culinary approach can bring peace to the Middle [...] 21847 131 31_Re: NYTimes: Stupor in our time17_Sheldon and Heidi21_shelheid@ACTCOM.CO.IL31_Tue, 28 Mar 2006 10:00:12 +0200580_iso-8859-1 Noam, thank you. Among her many other responsibilities, she was in charge of refilling the coffee and tea supplies at the coffee bar in the lobby, which was right next to my office. Since I'm a serious tea addict, I was at the tea bar countless times a day, each time opening the drawer with the teas, and looking for a flavor that I liked. Preliminary results from Israel's March 28 elections indicate that a Kadima-Labor alliance captured 50 seats between them in the Knesset, enough to anchor a center-left coalition capable of ruling effectively.

Israel's electoral system has ensured that the country never has a pure majority government; proportional representation with a mere 2 percent floor encourages a proliferation of parties and makes deal-making (and by extension deal-breaking) a regular feature of Israeli governance. March 30, 2006 Op-Ed Contributor You Say You Want a Constitution By STEVEN V. MAZIE NEARLY six decades after the state of Israel was founded, members of the newly elected Parliament will try to complete the job of drafting a constitution. Their greatest challenge will be to lend coherence to Israel's dual identity as a state that is both Jewish and democratic. I can't tell you how many times I have been told by Israelis that the British also don't have a constitution and that is an American hang up. They have 6 basic laws that get interpreted like constitutional law. It requires a super majority to change a Basic Law, much as it takes a super majority to add or change constitutional amendments. However, a lot of stuff we Americans hold dear, like separation of church and [...] 25863 95 35_Re: You say you want a constitution0_17_Smfgrappa@AOL.COM29_Thu, 30 Mar 2006 21:43:25 EST413_US-ASCII In a message dated 03/30/2006 9:34:46 P.M. Even they can see that having an estimated 500000 people who can't get married within the state of Israel due to halachic issues just is not healthy for the society. If they don't want to give in on conversions and don't want to cede any power to the progressive religious movements, civil marriage looks pretty attractive. The New Republic Online A GUIDE TO THE ISRAELI ELECTION. Winners and Losers by Martin Peretz Only at TNR Online Post date: 03.31.06

Let's start with the big losers. Bibi Netanyahu, despite his bluster about reviving the Likud party which he had torn asunder, led it to a coruscating defeat. Having entered the last Knesset with 40 seats, it enters the next one with 12. Now, of course, Ariel Sharon had taken so many of Likud's stars and half-stars with him into Kadima (and into a new way of dealing with the Palestinians) that Netanyahu had almost no one [...]
